For many of our families they have not had any intervention or guidance about their child's difficulties other than following their observations (or intuition) to seek out extra help. To which we acknowledge a parent's insight is worth gold.

A supported, confidence-building path from primary into secondary school - for the students taking the leap, and the parents and carers who champion them.
Running from August 2026 – January 2027. Ticket sales open soon - Rookery Road families get first access through our VIP waitlist.

Learning specialist consultant and Rookery Road's own Director, Cathy Harrison, hosts our signature Transition to Secondary School parent workshop each year — and this is one evening you won't want to miss.
This intimate, VIP-only event brings parents and carers together for an evening rich in knowledge, peer connection and a genuine celebration of you and your child. Cathy will guide you to build the confidence to become the fearless advocate you were born to be, sharing invaluable insight into the nervous system and self-regulation that will leave you informed and empowered.
After years of navigating and advocating within the education system, Cathy's experience and perspective are something every parent deserves to hear before their child steps into Year 7.

Held in person at our HQ in capped small groups, this six-week course helps your child build a well-tested toolkit and grow in confidence as they prepare for the transition into secondary English.
Facilitated by our leading literacy specialists, Cathy Harrison and Harriet Dunn, the course offers insight into the key language and expectations of Year 7 English, a snapshot of the text types and writing responses students will meet, and the study skills that make all the difference - setting up a workspace, note-taking and building a timetable. Throughout, we weave in self-advocacy and the accommodations your child is entitled to, so they walk in prepared and supported.

For so many of our learners with dyslexia, the right technology is essential, not optional. For many neurodiverse students, school can feel overwhelming: words are confusing, instructions pile up and confidence quietly fades. With the right tools, that can shift completely.
Research shows that supports like text-to-speech, speech-to-text and organisation apps reduce cognitive load, free up working memory and let students focus on what matters — understanding, expressing their ideas and feeling capable again. Behind every tool is something far more powerful: a child who finally feels seen, supported and understood.
In this workshop we'll give parents and carers clear, practical ideas to set your child on a more confident path into Year 7.

We run our Executive Function groups in the January holidays for good reason — Term 4 is always a whirlwind of end-of-year activities, graduation, Step Up days, farewelling primary school and then Christmas. Coming together in January gives students the space to iron out the final kinks and feel genuinely ready and excited about starting Year 7.
Our very own Executive Function specialist, Stevie Picton, facilitates these workshops, guiding students towards a deeper understanding of self-awareness, managing stress, setting up their own systems and advocating for themselves.
